Aviation Museum of Central Finland: Jyväskylä, Finland

I was staying in Helsinki which is right down in the south of Finland. As the name suggests, this museum is right in the middle of the country! It took about 2 and a half hours in total but I travelled up on the train to get there. From Helsinki take a train to Tampere and from here change trains and travel to Jyvaskyla. This is quite a large town and you can either take a bus or easily get a taxi to the museum. I took a cab out to the museum and got the bus back into town where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

But back to the museum - WOW! This is one of the best aviation museums I have ever been too! The building is great, the planes are well lit, well presented and accessible from great angles on the ground and from above. The real highlight for me was the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I which is still in its genuine WW2 paint, what an amazing time capsule. The next highlight for me was the worlds only original Brewster Buffalo which is displayed as recovered, I hope it stays here for many more years and doesn't go to the US. So many other gems to pick from, Bristol Blenheim, Fokker XXI (only original one!), Me109 and then the cold war and the early bi-planes. Literally all of the Finnish Airforce is displayed! Great little shop too - ideal for the scale model maker as some very rare kits and decals are for sale! Finally a nice little coffee shop is present, ideal for leaving your less interested travel buddies in one you look around!
